˝Hi Gabor, in short: the sound design of the 36 is based on the TriAmp MK2, the sound design of the 40 on the MK3. The 40 offers the Red Box AE (Ambience Emulation) that is also switchable to bypass to run pure power amp signal into IR players or software speaker and cab sims. And the 40 takes pedals well, the 36 sometimes does not like pedals, especially fuzz and boost pedals. Hope that helps.
